PROGRAM OFFERINGS

  • PROGRAMS OFFERED: We offer cosmetology and esthetics as our two programs.
  • COSMETOLOGY/ESTHETICS: Our esthetics program incorporates skin care, facials, body treatments, hair removal, makeup application, lash extensions, waxing, business development, wellness, and retail knowledge. Our cosmetology program covers all of that, with the addition of hair cutting, color, texture services, and nail care.
  • CoW MASSAGE THERAPY: Our massage therapy program covers anatomy, body mechanics, massage techniques, as well as business classes and holistic and energy techniques.
  • AIDM/CoW ONLY: Our esthetics program incorporates skin care, facials, body treatment, hair removal, makeup application, waxing, business development, wellness and retail knowledge. Our cosmetology program covers all of that, with the addition of hair cutting, color, texture services, and nail care. Neither program includes lash extensions in the curriculum, however a cosmetology or esthetic license is required in the state of Iowa to perform lash services.
  • MUD MAKEUP LEVEL 1 CERTIFICATION: All cosmetology students will receive a Level 1 MUD Makeup Certification at no additional charge. Receiving the Level 1 Certification will allow students to pursue further education at either MUD Makeup campuses, located in Los Angeles and New York City. This program is not available to our esthetician students, and is only offered at AIC, AFW, AICH, and AFI at this time.
  • EDUCATOR’S PROGRAM: The Educator’s program is only offered to alumni and employees, with the exception of CoW’s Cosmetology instructor program.
  • BARBERING: AFI ONLY

NOT OFFERED

  • STANDALONE NAIL TECHNICIAN: We do not offer a standalone nail program. Our cosmetology program covers nails, and with a cosmetology license, nails are covered under the scope of practice. If the lead wants a program that covers only nails, please provide them with their respective state’s Cosmetology State Board.
  • BARBERING: We do not teach barbering. The difference between cosmetology and barbering is that barbering focuses purely on hair, in addition to the use of a straight razor. Cosmetology focuses on hair, skin, makeup, and waxing.
  • MICROBLADING/PERMANENT MAKEUP: We do not teach microblading or permanent makeup, Both of these require a tattoo license granted by the state.
  • MEDICAL ESTHETICIAN: Medical esthetician is an unregulated term. Usually, a lead is referring to an esthetician that works under the supervision of a dermatologist or plastic surgeon. All estheticians, medical or not, have the same base license. In order to become a medical esthetician, the lead would need to obtain their esthetics license and begin working under a doctor, who would then provide extra training.
  • BOTOX/FILLER/INJECTIONS: We do not offer training in botox, filler, or injections. These services require a Bachelors degree in Nursing (BSN) to perform.

TRANSFER HOURS

  • AIC/AFW/AICH: We accept cosmetology hours only on a case-by-case basis from both Aveda or non-Aveda schools. Ask the lead what school they are attending and how much hours they have. Schedule the lead a private CPS.
  • AFI: We accept cosmetology hours from Aveda schools only.
  • CoW: If a lead calls in inquiring about transfer hours, please forward them over to Kelly Lott and Annie Bishop.
  • AIDM: Cosmetology and esthetics transfer hours are accepted on a case-by-case basis from both Aveda and non-Aveda schooling. Ask the lead what school they are attending and how much hours they have. Make note of this in your call/textey notes.

FELONIES

  • SCHOOL POLICY: As a school policy, we do not accept any students who have any pending or current felony charges on their criminal record. There are no exceptions.
  • LEAD WITH FELONY: If a lead has a felony, please ask them if/when they can get it removed. If it is within a reasonable amount of time (3-6 months,) please continue the scheduling process. Make note of this and schedule them privately. If it’s a longer period of time, encourage them to reach back out once they have the felony expunged.

HIGH SCHOOL/GED

  • SCHOOL POLICY: We require either a high school diploma or GED to enroll in our programs.
  • HIGH SCHOOLERS: We are able to schedule juniors and seniors for a virtual CPS, however it needs to be labeled as “HS” and cannot be double booked with a lead who already holds a diploma. They will not be able to fully enroll until after graduation.
  • NO HS DIP/GED: If a lead does not have a high school diploma or GED, ask them if they’re in the process of obtaining one. If the lead is getting their GED within a reasonable amount of time (3-6 months,) please continue the scheduling process and mark their CPS as private. If it is a longer period of time or they aren’t in the process of obtaining one, schedule a call back for late junior or early senior year.
